Senior Optical Engineer
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Optical Engineer with expertise in complex routing and multicast video distribution systems. If you’re excited about joining a rapidly growing team and working on innovative projects, this is your chance to make an impact!
This role will primarily support a long-term project in Florida, as well as the client’s backend networks and systems. This job is primarily remote, you can be based anywhere in the Continental US, but you’ll need to travel to Fort Myers, FL, and other locations occasionally for meetings, site visits, and customer support. Some travel outside the US may be required. You must be a US Citizen and able to pass a security screening.

What You’ll Do:
As a Senior Optical Network Engineer, you’ll leverage your expertise in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting DWDM and OTN networks. This includes configuring optical network components and working with industry-leading platforms such as Nokia PSS 1830. If you’re not already experienced with Nokia equipment, you’ll have the opportunity to learn quickly and obtain relevant certifications.
This role involves leading the deployment of new optical networks, collaborating with vendors, and serving as a key technical liaison. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external customers, providing engineering support and ensuring seamless project execution. Travel for customer meetings, site visits, and deployments is required, primarily in Florida, with potential travel to other locations within the Continental US (CONUS) and Outside the Continental US (OCONUS).
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, implement, and document new DWDM and OTN optical network systems.
- Configure and test optical network components.
- Support customers and contractors with installations, commissioning, and acceptance testing.
- Monitor network performance and identify potential issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems with optical networks.
- Provide technical support to internal teams and external customers.
- Test and prototype new technologies and service architectures in lab environments.
- Complete engineering estimates and installation packages as needed.
As a mid-level engineer, you’ll need a comprehensive understanding of DWDM and OTN core networks and the ability to manage projects independently. Strong project management and troubleshooting skills are essential to meet deadlines and maintain performance standards.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Expertise in DWDM and OTN optical network technologies, including wavelength selection, multiplexing, and demultiplexing.
- Familiarity with optical fiber characteristics and transmission parameters.
- Proficiency in network design tools, including Microsoft Visio.
- Strong analytical, strategic, and critical thinking skills.
- Self-directed, motivated, and highly focused on delivering results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Skilled in identifying, reporting, and resolving technical issues efficiently.
Certifications & Education:
Industry certifications relevant to optical networking are highly valued, including:
- Ciena Optical Communications Professional (OC-P)
- Cisco OPT200 certification
- Nokia Certified Optical Network Professional (ONP)
- Nokia Certified Optical Network Services Expert (ONSE)*
- Nokia Certified Optical Network Design Expert (ONDE)*
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Telecommunications, or a related field is required. A graduate degree may substitute for professional experience on a year-for-year basis.

Compensation:
This position offers a competitive compensation package, including base salary, commission, and bonus. On-target earnings (OTE) exceed $175,000+, with uncapped potential based on project outcomes and experience. Stock options are also included for all employees.
